Play Therapy
A natural, developmentally appropriate way for children to process experiences, explore feelings, and build emotional regulation.
Why Play Matters
Children communicate through play long before they can fully express their thoughts and emotions through words. Play provides a natural, developmentally appropriate way for children to process experiences, explore feelings, build problem-solving skills, and strengthen emotional regulation.
Meeting Children in Their World
One of the things I enjoy most about working with children is entering their world with curiosity, creativity, and authenticity. Children communicate through play, movement, imagination, and connection rather than words alone. I work to create an environment where children feel comfortable being themselves, matching their energy in a way that helps them feel seen, understood, and engaged while maintaining a safe and therapeutic space.
My creative and flexible approach allows me to connect with a wide variety of personalities, whether a child is energetic and expressive, quiet and cautious, or somewhere in between.
What Sessions Look Like
Sessions may incorporate games, art, storytelling, imaginative play, and other creative activities that help children express themselves in ways that feel natural and comfortable. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach. The tools and techniques shift based on who your child is and what they need.
When Play Therapy Can Help
Play-based therapy can be especially helpful for children experiencing:
- Anxiety
- Trauma
- Behavioral challenges
- Family transitions
- Emotional regulation difficulties
- Attachment concerns
The Parent Connection
Parents remain an important part of the process. I regularly collaborate with caregivers to provide insight, support, and practical strategies that help children continue to grow outside of the therapy room.
Play-based approaches are most commonly used with children ages 3 through 12, though creative interventions can be beneficial across all developmental stages.
